Police have offered the following advice:

• Get external lighting (dusk till dawn and motion-sensor PIR at the sides and rear of the home)

• Mark or register property and put up signage/stickers to show that this has been done

• Use timer switches when away

• Ensure all garden tools and ladders are locked securely away

• Keep bags, wallets, smartphones/tablets etc out of sight.
